Live show : NATE WILLIAMS - Got To Let Go (Album Launch) 8th December 2014

North Wales may not be recognised as the soul capital of the world but one man is on a mission to change that.

NATE WILLIAMS recently released his album 'Got To Let Go' after successfully completing (and actually beating his target of) a Pledge music campaign.

The 13 track set highlights the influences of the singer & multi-instrumentalist, referencing everything from 70's funk to 90's R&B and modern Neo-Soul all of which has been rolled up into his own unique style which has had critics describing it as 'the best UK Soul album of 2014!'

Nate will also be making his headline debut at the album's official launch show on Monday 8th December at North London venue 'The Islington' were he will joined on stage by a band made up of some of the hottest musician on the London scene.

New Music: JETTA - Crescendo EP (OUT NOW)

'Crescendo' is the new EP from talented singer/songwriter JETTA.

Fresh from opening up for STEVIE WONDER this weekend at London's Calling Festival and having been tipped as one to watch for 2014 by Rolling Stone Magazine & iTunes, you may think that she is new to the scene but this couldn't be further from the truth.

The Liverpudlian vocalist has been honing her craft in the music world for some time now. Coming from a musical family it was only a matter of time before she made it on to the stage. This eventually happened when she landed a job as backing singer for PALOMA FAITH with whom she toured promoting the singer's first album but it was always JETTA's intention to move on to a career of her own.

Fast forward a few years and now (after signing a deal with Polydor) we get to hear the first fruits of her labour.

Although there are only three actual songs on the EP (plus a remix), it instantly gives a flavour the diversity of her sound. 

The title track has a funky, almost disco inspired groove (kindly provided in trademark style by it's producer, a certain Mr. PHARRELL WILLIAMS).

Elsewhere  'Operators' brings in a heavy bassline and an electronic element to her sound.

The standout track for us (as well as a huge live favourite) is 'Can You Hear Me Now', with it's anthemic chanting qualities showing a much rockier side to her style. Throughout the EP, it's her incredible, powerful vocals that hold everything together.

New Music: AMY MILNER - Have It All

'Have It All' is the haunting debut from a new name on the scene, AMY MILNER.

The 20 year-old Suffolk native has revolved her life around music since an early age. A piano playing singer/songwriter, Amy is gaining support from a variety of high profile media including BBC Introducing, who recently gave this song it's exclusive first play

The beautiful ballad is co-written and produced by KYAN and is a taster of what we can expect from her forthcoming EP, currently in production.

New Music: MAINEY - Serious

Wanna hear something 'Serious'? Check out the new track from multi-talented South-East Londoner MAINEY. 

For his first official single release, the soulful singer/songwriter bring us an 80's fueled funky pop gem, with a clear nod to some of the era's biggest stars (you can certainly hear elements of M.J, PRINCE, even RICK JAMES in the mix).

'Serious' is produced by JERRY ABBOTT (@jerryabbott71), who's previous credits include work with OLLY MURS, ELLA EYRE, ED DREWITT and much of PIXIE LOTT's forthcoming third album). The track will also feature on MAINEY's upcoming EP, due for itunes release soon.

New Video: ELLA HENDERSON - Ghost

One of the X-Factor's greatest 'one's that got away' is finally set to release new music.

ELLA HENDERSON, then only 16 years old, was one of the favourites to win the 2012 series so it came as a surprise and something of a scandal when she was voted out in only 6th position.

However, Mr. Cowell and his team at SYCO knew a good thing when they saw it and signed the Lincolnshire born girl not long after the show had finished.

In the two years that followed, Ella has written and recorded songs both in the UK and the US with some of the biggest names in the songwriting business (including Claude Kelly, Eg White, Saleem Remi, Babyface, and TMS) and finally the time has come for the first of these tracks to be unleashed on the public.

'Ghost' IS that track. 

Co-written with prolific singer/songwriter and ONE REPUBLIC frontman RYAN TEDDER (who you may recall wrote a little ditty entitled 'Bleeding Love' for another of the X-Factor alumni, LEONA LEWIS) the song is a monster hit in the making. 

The accompanying video is also something of epic proportions. Shot on location in New Orleans, the concept of the video was entirely Ella's and looks like an extended trailer for a full length movie, complete with murder, swamps, a fugitive and lots of cops.

ELLA official launched the track earlier this week in a series of secret showcase gigs (which we were lucky enough to attend) for the music industry, as well as a few lucky fans, where she performed the single plus tracks from her forthcoming debut album 'Chapter One' expected in September (and if the quality of what we heard is anything to go by, it's going to be HUGE).

New Music: SASHA KEABLE - Living Without You + Headline show announced

SASHA KEABLE returns with her first new music of 2014.

 The vocalist (probably best known to date for her collaborations with DISCLOSURE) has debuted new music ‘Living Without You’. 

Having only graduated from the prestigious BRITS school last year, Sasha (who is managed by TINIE TEMPAH's Disturbing London) has already signed a 5 album deal with Polydor records and has just completed a nationwide tour as support for KATY B. 

This new 80’s influenced track is the first track from her forthcoming EP ‘Lemongrass and Lime Leaves’, the follow up to last year’s ‘Black Book’ set which introduced the world to her modern, soulful style.

 

‘Lemongrass and Lime Leaves’ is due out on May 12th and Sasha will be performing a one off gig to celebrate it’s release at East London venue Birthdays two weeks later on May 26th. Tickets for the show are available here

New Music: JACKIE D WILLIAMS - Mountain Of Gold

'Mountain Of Gold' marks the return of one of the UK's hottest new properties, 

JACKIE D WILLIAMS.

It's the lead track and taster of the Oxford singer/songwriter's upcoming third EP 'Order Of Discovery' the follow up to his 2013 set 'The Paradox'. 

As ever Jackie's soulful vocals shine through but this time we're offered a slightly darker, more gritty lo-fi sound, more reminiscent of something from The White Stripes.

New Album: KRISTYNA MYLES - Pinch Me Quick

For many artists trying to make their way in the music world, the business can be a real rollercoaster and no-one knows more about this than KRISTYNA MYLES. 

Having spent years on the live circuit and famously performing on the streets, which lead to her becoming Radio Five Live's 'Busk Idol' winner, the Manchester based singer was lucky enough to negotiate a record deal.

However despite being signed to produce five albums, only one single was released in three years which ultimately lead to a parting of the ways between the singer and her label. She did however manage to retain her full musical copyrights to her songs which now means she gets to release the album independently and under her own terms.

'Pinch Me Quick' is the product of this hard work and could even possible be even better for the wait. 

The 14 track set is a remarkable assured debut with all but one of the compositions being written or co-written by KRISTINA herself. The album also features her acclaimed cover of PAUL WELLER's STYLE COUNCIL classic 'The Paris Match' (and you can read our previous post about it's creation here).



Having seen her perform several times live over the last few years (including as full tour support for one of the UK's best known female artists, LISA STANSFIELD), many of the songs were already familiar to me and indeed do have retro feel and sound to them which almost make you feel they are already classics.

The first new single taken from the album is the romantic 'Just Three Little Words' (co-written with Irish songwriter TAMRA KEENAN). 



Elsewhere on the album musically there is a mixture of straight up pop, bluesy southern inspired soul (for example 'Make It Right') and even a little bit of country (on 'Stay With Me'). She is as comfortable with the uptempo tracks (on songs like the album's closer 'I'm Not Going Back') as she is with the smoother ballads (like the heartfelt 'Sorrow' and the heartbreaking 'Betrayal').

The first is at the Deaf Institute in Manchester on the day of release (March 10th) with support from SAM GRAY, HANNAH HIRD & MISS 600 (tickets available here) followed by the London launch, a special FREE gig (in association with Premier Radio) at The Bedford, Balham on March 30th (click here for more info).

New Video: FIONA BEVAN - The Machine

You may not yet know the name but you certainly know her work. 

Singer/songwriter FIONA BEVAN most famously is the co-writer of a ditty entitled 'Little Things', which she composed with friend Mr. ED SHEERAN which consequently went on to be a massive worldwide hit for an up and coming boy band called ONE DIRECTION.

Now the Suffolk born artist is finally set to release her own debut album, 'Talk To Strangers' this year which is preceded by first single 'The Machine'.  

Describing her own music as a mix of soul, folk and pop and with a unique vocal style (not to mention the striking image of her unmistakable blonde afro), the video to the single has just released.

'Talk To Strangers' is due April 28th on Navigator records and is available to pre-order from Propermusic  Amazon and iTunes

The Queen of all divas returns is back with a brand new single.

MARIAH CAREY unleashes the second official single from her upcoming 14th album 'The Art Of Letting Go'.

The follow up to '#Beautiful', the sleeper hit duet with MIGUEL, is 'You're Mine (Eternal)' and sees the vocalist back in familiar slow jam territory. 

The video is a typically subtle affair from the lady herself where she appears as a sort of mermaid, then seemingly topless as she sits by a jungle clearing waterhole (as you do!)

The year may only be just over a month in but 2014 has already been an amazing year for JESS GLYNN. 

Timing of releases means that she has been a featured vocalist on not one but two of the biggest dance records of the year, ROUTE 94's 'My Love' and the massive number one smash from CLEAN BANDIT 'Rather Be', meaning she has been thrust into the spotlight seemingly from nowhere.

However she has been working on solo material for a while and now signed to Atlantic Records, the first fruits of this is 'Home', co written with fellow artiste JIN JIN and is produced by BLESS BEATS

New Album: KATY B - Little Red

It's been 3 years since the release of debut album, KATY B returns and she's still on a mission to bring her brand of dance music to the masses.

A lot has changed in the world of dance in that time, with the emergence of EDM as dominant force on the charts and yet somehow KATY's music seems to take a different approach and edge to much of the Euro house around today.

'Little Red' is a collection of 12 more gems (or 17 on the deluxe version) that sees the Peckham girl's love of the club scene grow and mature.

As with the best known tracks from her first set there is a strong narrative to her songwriting, the album's debut single '5 am' showed this as does the latest hit (her most successful charting single to date) the powerful 'Crying For No Reason'.

As we have come to expected from any album these days there are also the collaborations, these include rising star SAMPHA lending his soulful tones to 'Play' as well as the inclusion of 'Aaliyah', the massive underground hit duet with JESSIE WARE produced by GEENEUS (who is also responsible for much of the album) that previously featured on her 2012 'Danger' EP

Elsewhere there are other moments pure quality from the Drum & Bass fueled 'Emotions', the sensual 'Saphire Blue' and even the more down tempo tracks like 'Tumblin' Down' and closing power ballad-esque 'Still' 

KATY B recently performed many of the tracks live for the first time headlining MTV's Brand New gig





The only disappointment is the mysterious absence of 2013 single 'What Love Is Made Of' and personally I would have liked to have seem the inclusion of 'CFNR' in it's stripped down piano version as performed live.

Overall this is a very strong collection that sees the Queen of UK dance retain her seemingly unassailable crown.

New Video: LEAH MCFALL - No Ordinary Love

LEAH MCFALL certainly appears to be possible the biggest success that the UK version of THE VOICE has created so far.

Despite being runner up in the 2013 season, her coach will.i.am's belief in her has continued. The BLACK EYED PEAS front-man has mentored the Northern Irish singer, by not only writing and producing music with her but taking her on tour with him too.

The first product of their collaboration is the track 'No Ordinary Love'. The track (which samples the Kool & The Gang classic 'Summer Madness') is not an official single but LEAH say of it "This is the first song Will.i.am and I ever wrote together. So we wanted to make a wee video and share the moment with you all :D ...hope you like it as much as we do ♡ xx"
