YouTube has been responsible for creating some huge music
stars over the last few years and with over 9 million views already on her
channel LIANNE KAYE could easily be adding to that list before too long.
Hailing from Essex the singer/songwriter has specialised in
creating uniquely interpreted covers of current and recent hits as well as
working on her own original material. For this, her debut London headline show, she was to showcase
both.
The line up for the night also included two other incredibly
talented artists.
First up was ALEEM. Born in Chicago and now living in LA,
the 24 year old had just flown into town but it was long before he was
performing. No stranger to our shores, he had the auspicious honour of opening
for FIFTH HARMONY on their European arena tour last year with what he describes
as his own brand of ‘acoustic-guitar driven R&B tinged pop’.
Although far from an arena, ALEEM still knows how to captivate an audience in intimate surroundings and his set definitely charmed
a few along the way. Highlights included original song and recent single ‘Inside
Out’ and a cover of one of his favourite songs ‘Breakeven’ by THE SCRIPT.
Next on the bill was NYNA, born in Serbia she is a
classically trained singer/songwriter and pianist since the age of 5 who has
been making waves recently with her official debut single ‘Faces’ which has
gained recognition and several plays across the BBC Introducing platforms.
She describes her music as dark pop but there is also an empowering
element on each track. There is a power to her vocals as well, at times her
style could be compared to that of ADELE but that would be doing her a
disservice as it has it’s own unique quality which had the crowd stunned into
silence.
It was time for our headliner. LIANNE KAYE grabbed her guitar and
was joined on stage by her 3 piece band. Where there had been calm previously,
we were about to be rocked.
Kicking off with original material in the shape of slight
country edged ‘Everything To Me’ it’ was clear this girl meant business. Next came
the first of her covers, giving RIHANNA’s ‘Only Girl In The World’ a complete
overhaul and almost transforming it into a rock ballad.
More reworked cover tracks followed with versions of KINGS OF LEON
& FOO FIGHTERS classics given more faithful workouts. These were interspersed
with other original tracks including my own personal favourite of the night ‘Vacancy’ that displayed a more soulful edge to her vocal.
With two more songs to go, LIANNE included her version of a
song that I don’t remember ever being covered by anyone else. I haven’t heard ANASTACIA’s
‘Left Outside Alone’ for some time but hearing this take on it made it sound like
a new release.
The show was wrapped up with her most recent single ‘Clear’
leaving us in no doubt that it really IS clear that LIANNE KAYE is an artist to watch out for.
